A Team go on opening day demolishing spree

Wellingborough Old Grammaians 59 Bugbrooke 2nds 0

The OG’s warmed up to their season with an easy victory over what had to be said was weak opposition. The old boys fielded an A side due to a number of injuries to regular 1st team players. The makeshift team put on a magic performance and ran in several tries from all over the pitch. The old boys team started the game well and took the game straight to the opposition. The og’s backs were running some excellent lines and throwing the ball around, sometimes to their disadvantage, throwing excellent opportunities away by trying to be a little bit to elaborate.

The opposition didn’t have any chances in the first half, they were driven off every scrum and some excellent line out jumping from Andy Tickle left Bugbrooke starved off any possession, This led the way for debutant Nick Brown to score from a 5 metre scrum after a Bugbrooke player simply dropped the ball over the line leaving Brown to pounce. This seemed to open the doors for the old boys as tries started coming from everywhere, the pick of the bunch was David Beddell’s who started in his own half and left everyone for dead eventually scoring under the sticks. This was followed by tries from Milton Kirby, Jamie Dinger and another for Beddells.

The start of the second half saw more of the same from the old boys, good clean ball given to the backs so that they could show their skills, this saw scrum half Brown claim his second, Stuart Arscott went over along with James Hinde and Beddells rounded off his hatrick. Armitage started to get his kicking boots on and was hitting the target more regularly. All in all it was a good display that gives the old boys confidence for what will surley be a more testing task in the league next Saturday. But with some regulars still missing ahead of next week it shows that the Grammarians are starting to build a little bit more strength in depth, which is good news for the club.
