Two win from two in the League

The OG’s made hard work of beating a determined and very aggressive Oundle outfit, A scrappy game saw the OG’s needing to use some great 'bouncebackability' to overturn the first twenty minutes of the game were the Wellingborough side simply left their heads in the changing rooms. The home side won the toss and decided to play into the fierce wind, but from the first whistle found themselves heavily under the cosh and gifted the away team with a simply penalty within two minutes of the start.

This did not kick start the home team who were second best all round the park, Oundle were using the wind to their advantage and some sloppy defending from a line out led to Oundle scoring their first try of the day, the conversion was missed and the Wellingborough side started to click into gear, but Oundle scored a controversial try again through the home sides sloppy defending. This was converted and the OG’s had given Oundle a 15 point start, At last the home side turned up and started to play rugby, even with the wind in their faces they started to control the game, The line out and scrum started working the big kicks were now being dealt with and the OG’s backs were getting some ball. This led to several scrums on the Oundle line and Pete King scored in the blind side corner. Armitage missed the conversion. With the OG’s on top round the park Oundle started throwing some punches, the referee saw this warned an Oundle played who simply steamed in again to throw a punch and was given a straight red card. The half time whistle followed soon after and with only a ten-point lead and 14 men on the pitch Oundle were going to struggle.

The second half started well with Armitage finding his kicking boots to land a long-range effort aided by the wind. This was followed up a few minutes later with another try scored on the blind side by Dave Bedells, Amitage landed the conversion to level the scores. Since going 15 – 0 down the old boys had not looked back and Oundle could not get into the game. The Second half was spent with the old boys camped in the Oundle 22, Armitage landed a couple more penalties after ridiculous indiscretions from an aggressive Oundle team, before Brian king went under the posts after some excellent work from the OG’s pack had sucked all the Oundle defence in leaving King a five yard charge to the line again, Armitage added the extra’s and the OG’s were definitely going to pick up the points, and the players fell asleep and gifted the away team a try in the corner from a line out that should have been easily defended. The old boys woke back up to see the rest of the game out. Falling to sleep next week against Brackley will give the old boys an impossible task as this will be their toughest test of the season so far.
