Seconds squash St Neots

Another great win for the Old Boys with 9 tries and 4 conversions.  But I have to question the
ethics of St Neots as we (as a second team) won by that margin, and the thirds played their 3rds (allegedly!!!!!!) and lost 77 - 0.  Bearing in mind that we have already played St Neots once this season less than 2 months ago over at their ground and lost 19 - 17.  It has to be questioned what level of personnel they must have put out to face our third team.  There were cries that St Neots fielded some of their first team, but I just cannot see how a club of their size and league standing can field a third team capable of putting 77 points past the Old Boys. I can only offer an apology to the third team captain and his players for that complete mismatch.

Before the start of the game, we had players playing out of position, and there were some
people playing with big hangovers as they attended Wedges 40th birthday bash the night before  including myself!!.  St Neots looked the part and were training before the start, but it soon became obvious as to who was the superior team, once again in the backs and the forwards did also play their part including the welcome
return of a guest for one game Dave Brain who played at 8, and showed his class and experience at the base of the scrum.  The Old Boys certainly played it at a fast and frenetic pace but their defence was not up to much, and made inroads almost at will.  Simsy opened the floodgates with the first try, and managed to take out that nasty thing stuck in his willie before the game started!!!!!!.  Next to score
was "Magic Torch" Raines who played as flanker, which has to be said is his favoured position.  Althought the pitch was beginning to cut up and
was muddy, the Old boys managed to keep the intensity levels up which was pleasing
to see.  What was also pleasing to see was good handling in the backs.  However, certain players tried to take it on too much on their own before giving the pass but by then it was often too late.  What we need to do more often is to draw the man , create space outside and GIVE IT!!!!!!!.  Simple rugby is the best rugby.

Third person to score was Keith Finson after a simple flowing move through the backs.  He outpaced the defence to score under the posts to convert his own try.  By now the Old Boys
were crusing but it was just that soft attitude that let St neots in for their only try of the game.  This acted as a wake up call and the Old Boys regained their correct attitude.  Next to score was "Girly Gloves" whho had
a much better game than Wednesday (But that wasn't hard!!!!!).  He dotted down in the corner, the conversion was missed, and not long after that, it was half time.

The second half started just like the first, Wedge and Brainy having a slight disagreement
with one of their forwards about where he was allowed to put his leg in the ruck.  He was given the chance to move it, he failed so the 2 old campaigners moved it with some "gentle persuasion!!!!!!!".  Brainy was also involved
in setting up the try for "Mr Popular" Dale Pearson who scored the first try of the second half.  It has to be said that during the game, the Old Boys made some silly mistakes, none more so than "Magic Torch" who tried to take a quick tap penalty in front of the posts and then dropping it - TWAT.  Keith Finson then scored the next try which was probably the try of the
match.  The attackers drawing the defenders, making the ball do the work and putting
players into space.  The ball must have gone through 7 pairs of hands before it
reached him, and he went on a mazy solo run to the line.  Brainy got his just rewards
for a good performance by scoring the next try.  St Neots were well and truly beaten
and tried all sorts of intimidating tactics which weren't working.  Fair play to stand - in props Hopper, Snowy and Mr Popular who all did admirable jobs in the front row.

Arscott then scored the 8th try  and had showed some strong running throughout the game, but showed that he is really a winger and not a centre.  Simsy finished off proceedings with the final try to cap off a good week for the Old Boys.
